How to Show Icons and No Thumbnails

Windows 7 has a nifty thumbnail feature to generate thumbnails of the documents you see in Windows Explorer. This may not be your desired behavior – perhaps your system is slower than expected and the thumbnails are slowing it down, or perhaps you work in a highly confidential environment and seeing thumbnails of documents is not ideal. Whatever your reason, you need a way to eliminate the thumbnails and only show icons. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Click on the Start menu. Click on Computer.
  2. Click on the Organize button. Click on Folder and Search Options.
  3. Click on the View tab.

  4. Check the checkbox next to Always show icons, never thumbnails.
  5. Click OK.
