How to Always Show Menus in Explorer

Windows Vista started moving away from file menus in Windows Explorer and Windows 7 continues the trend. It’s probably the most striking thing you’ll find about Microsoft Software these days: the menus are disappearing in favor of a more icons or tab driven interface. In Windows Explorer, your menus are always hiding just beneath the surface – press the Alt key and your menus will reappear. If you want them to always be around, Microsoft has an option for that. Simply follow the steps below and your menus will come back just like the good ole days:

  1. Click on the Start menu. Click on Computer.
  2. Click on the Organize button. Click on Folder and Search Options.
  3. Click on the View tab.
  4. Check the checkbox next to Always show menus.
  5. Click OK to show menus in Windows Explorer.
