There are multiple ways to access functions and options in Microsoft Project. The File menu contains the options & actions associated with documents and the application.
The File menu is where you go to create, save, and close project plans. You can also print or set print options in the File menu. The File menu in Project contains the Send To submenu, allowing you to send the file to another application for processing (such as email). You can change document properties. Finally, you can Exit the program. In this Reference note, we’re going to review the New option.
File… New
When you click on New in the File menu, the New Project pane opens:
You have several options for a new project. You can create a blank project plan or create a project plan based on an existing project. You can also use a template to create a project plan. You can search online for a project plan, browse them in Office Online, or select a template from your local computer or a website.
In the Search online for field, enter the word Construction and click Go.
A Help window opens. The first two links are templates matching your search term. Click on the first one, Home construction project plan.
The entry in the help file is a link to the download page for this template.
If you download the template, it will open in Microsoft Project and give you a template for this type of project. There are dozens of templates for different types of projects and uses from building construction to a home moving plan.
