ACT! 2005 Tutorial

Managing Companies

A company is similar to a group, but mimics the structure of an actual company, with the ability to organize contacts in up to 15 divisions and an unlimited number of subdivisions. When you link a contact to a company, the link is displayed in the Company field in the contact record. This allows you to update contact information when you update company information, and to automatically associate the contact’s activities, notes, and opportunities with the company record.

Existing companies are displayed in the Company List:

  1. On the Act! navigation bar, select the Companies icon.
  2. On the Companies toolbar, click the Company List button.

The Company List works just like the Contact List and the Group List. You can sort the records by clicking on the column headings, and then use the Look for field to find a specific company. Double-click any company in the list to open the company record.

Creating a Company

To create a new company:

  1. On the Act! navigation bar, select the Companies icon.
  2. On the Companies toolbar, click the New Company button.

The Company Detail window opens.

The Company Detail window functions like the Contact Detail and Group Detail windows, with fields for entering basic company information and tabs along the bottom for entering notes, activities, opportunities, and other items.

  1. Enter the company information into the fields.
